Some photoshoots call for a studio. Others call for taking twelve two-metre paintings into the forest. Naturally, we chose the forest.
Artist Nic Everist creates landscape paintings that go beyond pretty pictures. Her work is about sharing stories, exploring life's lessons and connecting with people through the things we experience and feel. Inspired by nature, her paintings are created for the big feelers who find a little therapy in the great outdoors.
For this shoot, Nic had a pretty wild idea: bring her entire collection of twelve oversized tree paintings into the forest and photograph them amongst the very landscapes that inspire her work.
With a little forest fairy energy, plenty of volunteer hands on deck and a whole lot of creative problem-solving, we brought the idea to life.
We captured a collection of images showing Nic, her artwork and the surrounding landscape, creating a visual library to support her upcoming November exhibition. And because still photos weren't going to cut it, we also captured 40+ behind-the-scenes videos for Nic to use across her social media and marketing in the lead-up to the exhibition.
From the scale of the paintings to the little in-between moments, we wanted to capture the story behind the collection and give people a reason to feel connected to the work before they even step inside the exhibition.
A big, beautiful creative adventure and a reminder that sometimes the best ideas are the ones that sound a little bit crazy at first.
